Is it true that all businessmen in the United States are republicans or is that an urban legend?

I have always heard that. What do you think?

Answer #1

i doubt all of them all!

Answer #2

I am sure that membership or support for the republican party is not a prerequisite when starting a business.

The republicans tend to promote laws that are advantageous for very rich businesspeople and for very large businesses. But that does not mean that all of them have to support the republicans.

Answer #3

I imagine it’s just a stereotype of businessmen + capitalism = republicans.

Answer #4

Not hardly……business’s of both parties took offense to ‘You didn’t build that’

Answer #5

A lot of business people tend to vote Republican because they want lower taxes on business and less regulation. Not all though. Warren Buffet and George Soros are hugely wealthy and successful investors and businessmen and are liberal and have supported Democratic candidates.

Answer #6

It’s certainly true that more business people lean Republican than Democratic, but you should know better, Fito, than to ask if they “all” do.

The data varies, as always, from one poll to another and from one time to another, but these give some indication:

From a poll of small business owners and executives and large business executives, reported in the Huffington Post, November 29, 2011:

“more small-business folks affiliate with the Republicans (36 percent) than with the Democrats (24 percent), but the difference is not as large as people often think. Given entrepreneurs’ independent nature, perhaps it’s not surprising that most small-business execs (40 percent) claim to have no party affiliation (compared to 31 percent of their big-business counterparts). When it comes to big businesses, nearly the same number say they are Republicans (35 percent), as are Democrats (34 percent).”

From an August, 2012, Yahoo! poll of small business owners (only):

“38 percent of respondents said they are Republican, 30 percent Democrat, and 25 percent Independent. A handful of respondents affiliated with each party said they would cross party lines to vote, and 40 percent of Independents said they plan to vote for Romney. To be sure, Romney’s margin among small business owners is not airtight. Twelve percent said they remain undecided, and 16 percent said neither candidate is best for supporting small business issues.”
