Can you train a rat to ''act'' like a sniffer dog?

Answer #1

Anything is possible right? It would take lots of effort and time.

Answer #2

yeah, rats were used to sniff out mines.

Answer #3

I believe so yes. I think rats have this capability since they always know where the food is stored LOL

Answer #4

I read an article on it in the news paper, their sense of smell and intelligence rivals dogs. Also the fact that they are so small gives them a better chance of locating a mine without upsetting it. Not sure if they can be trained as quickly as a dog however because dogs are more driven for human approval. But yes they have trained them and they do show alot of promise.

Answer #5

I had a pet rat once, and one time I layed 4 tiny boxes out on the floor, inside one of the boxes was a penut. That rat quickly found out what box it was but he couldnt work out how to get the penut out. lol.
