How can I make top ramen healthier to eat?

All i have for lunch is cans of chili and top ramen but im trying to avoid foods that arent that good for you but its all i have, so what can i do? Not eating is not an option i dont want to develop an eating disorder or anything.

Answer #1

maybe add some vegtables

Answer #2

i dont have vegetables or i would eat those instead

Answer #3

then get some haha

Answer #4

I guess add an egg to your top ramen and take out some of the flavoring if possible like just kinda tip it and pour it out. Top ramen’s flavoring is literally just salt pretty much. I’d reccomend taking vitamins if this is all you can eat though, because top ramen is hardly healthy =/

Answer #5

i do take vitamins alot of them. Im more worried about the carb intake and calories than the nutrients it doesnt provide. DX

Answer #6

actually ramen isnt healthy at all it has enriched wheat flour which means they take all the healthy stuff out of it already it has Hydrogenated oils which arent healthy and then it has the seasoning thats no nutrition and is very unhealthy expecially for kids who need to eat healthy foods to grow up healthy

Answer #7

No one said it was healthy. I said it was HARDLY healthy, that means it’s not healthy.

Answer #8

Lacing your ramen with cyanide isn’t healthy at all. Ramen on it’s own once in a while is just not very healthy.

Answer #9

i know im just saying even if you add something healthy its still barely gonna be healthy

Answer #10

When I make it, I don’t usually put the whole packet in. & I also take out the broth since a lot of the salt is in it!! I just eat the noodles.. lol

Answer #11

man i like them tho.. i just drain out the broth add cheese and butter haha.. so not healthy

Answer #12

anorexia nervosa is caused by a distorted body image not skipped meals. Anyway, as you know, ramen noodles are not health food. I wouldn’t worry too much about eating them once in a while. When I was in college when money was tight I pretty much lived on ramen noodles and boxed macaroni & cheese dinners. I’m not convinced that high sodium is as bad as we are lead to believe. A lot of Asian foods are high in sodium but Asians tend to be healthier than us in the West. I don’t eat Ramen very often any more but I do eat Miso soup often. While Miso is a lot lower in calories it still is high in sodium. There are lots of other cheap meals but they are more work than pouring boiling water over a brick on noodles. Brown rice, lentils, dry beans, and frozen or seasonal vegetables are inexpensive and are very healthy.

Answer #13

The asian food we eat here and the stuff they make at home are two different things. The asian food that is home cooked has little salt in it compared to the U.S. food.

Answer #14

“All i have for lunch is cans of chili and top ramen”

“i dont have vegetables or i would eat those instead”

There’s nothing wrong with good ramen - whole grain, baked rather than fried noodles, lower sodium, no msg, etc. But Top ramen is more like having potato chips for lunch.

You can’t eat a healthful lunch if you only have crap foods available. Can’t you bring, say, a carrot and a cup-size carton of plain yoghurt or cottage cheese with you? What is limiting you to chili and bad ramen?

If that menu is really beyond your control, I’d say your better off eating a healthy, substantial breakfast and having a cup of green or herbal tea and a good, brisk walk for lunch. Unless you already struggle with anorexia, but filetofspam is right that you won’t get it from skipping lunch.

Answer #15

Soy, oyster, fish, black bean, hoisin sauces and miso paste are all very high in sodium. Asian foods “over there” might not be as high in sodium as the US versions but all are relatively high in sodium compared to current recommendations.

Answer #16

Well…that stuff is pretty much full of sodium and any natural ingredients have been stripped of nutrients. You can just get packaged veggies to have on the go. Motts has these new little bags of sliced apples, and for lunch I’ve eaten eggs and a raw carrot before. Look around your house and see what you have, there’s bound to be some healthy stuff =) and also: anyone who has never had an eating disorder simply has no idea what they’re talking about. It doesn’t matter what you read. Skipping lunch CAN make you develop and eating disorder, and FYI anorexia is not the only eating disorder out there.

Answer #17

Lol not to sound harsh but if you want to stop eating crap, stop buying it =) or if you’re like me, a girl living at home and your parents buy all the food, you can work with what you have or talk to your mom about buying veggies =)
