I will (hopefully) be getting my honours in accounting this year and then will go on to qualify as a chartered accountant. I was thinking of maybe supplementing this degree with something else, possibly in the IT profession. Does anyone know what they top payin IT qualifications are and maybe can give me a basic understanding of what they entail?
ITILv2 Foundations (Information Technology Infrastructure Library). CISSP – Certified Information Systems Security Professionals as mentioned above as well. CCIE – Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert, someone with this certifications does not even require an interview imagine how heavy is this certification. CCVP – Cisco Certified Voice Professional very very much in demand these days because of the VoIP services. SANS Institute's GIAC Security Engineer is a wonderful certification. Sniffer Certified Master (SCM) this is a much higher level certification which needs more knowledge and experience at a very deep level about protocols. All these certifications will not pay you anything less than $90K - $100K.
CCIE Routing and Switching is the top most in the field of networking. But the CCDP (Design Porfessional) and CCDA (Design Associate). These days the certifications with Voice and Wireless is increasing in demand. CISSP and the EC-Council certifications are good enough for a very good boost. GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification) also offers a very good certification audit, intrusion detection, incident handling, firewalls and perimeter protection, forensics and such topics are covered. Another way to boost is doing the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) its related to managing IT services. Hope this helps a bit.

I'd think that CISSP would be a good fit. It is a hard security certification. I'd think that this would be valuable regardless if you decide to go into IT or accounting. MCSE (Windows) , RHCE (Red Hat) or CCNA (Cisco) would be nice to have.
Another good thing is project management. I notice more job listings looking for IT people with PM skills. Not sure what a good certification for this is.
Thanks. I'll look into it. Also do you know whether I have the option of doing all of these qualifications party time?
