How long do antibiotics take to stop a toothache?

Okay so I’m traveling (on my blackberry) and I have the worst toothache! My wisdom teeth were never pulled and I just looked and one (upper mouth) is deterating (sp?) I never noticed before and I brush twice a day. It hurts so bad and I don’t have any money for a dentist plus we are traveling. What can I do to make it stop hurting? I alreday took tylonol. (I have vicadin bc of my broken toe but haven’t taken them bc they make me sick, should I take them?)

When you say you don’’t have money for a dentist, I’m assuming that the rest of the sentence is “But we DO have several thousands set aside for oral surgery,” because not taking care of your wisdom teeth is going to be far more costlier in the long run.

What you’re looking at is a potential of a lifetime of pain and infection, not to mention nerve damage and crooked teeth, if you don’t get your wisdom teeth extracted once they start to throb.

And what, you aren’t allowed to get dental work done if you’re in a different ZIP code? Who cares if you’re traveling? Call 1-800-DENTIST and stop popping pills.

Your the one who’s question I answered about the broken toe.I’m sorry I didn’t tell you the medicine made me sick too.It help but,I threw up all day. Anyway we keep having the same problems.I have a problem with my wisdom teeth too.It hurted really bad for awhile maybe a couple of weeks to a month before it came out.Mine didn’t come all the way out so I’m still in pain but,if yours comes all the way out then it’ll probably help. Until then all I can say is keep food out of it.Continue taking Tylenol.Use some orajel maximum strength.

You’re going to HAVE to find a way of getting money for a dentist to fix your problem. Ignoring the problem is the worst thing to do. Also DON’T try to pull a tooth out yourself. You could end up with blood poisoning. I’ve seen it happen and it could become fatal without proper antibiotics. If and when you get enough cash for a trip to a dentist, make sure they are qualified (in other words, a REAL dentist). It could be just as dangerous to allow an un-qualified dentist to work on your mouth.

Answer #4

They said I never had to extract my wisdom teeth. I had room in my mouth for them. I’ve never had a dental problem before in my life. And no I don’t have that kind of money and no I do not pop pills, thus the reason I have not taken anything but tylonol for my foot. How about instead of preaching you give actual advice? I mean this is a site for advicen am I wrong? Now can anyone with half a brain give me some good advice on how to ease the pain?

Answer #5

Orajel (use as directed) and make an emergency appointment to have it pulled. If it isn’t too deteriorated it’s not too much $. And you may be able to go to a free clinic that will do it. Good Luck!!

Answer #6

Antibiotics do not stop the pain. Painkillers do that.

Antibiotics will help any infections go away, and over the course of a few days or a week, pain may reduce then.

Good painkillers are Advil, good old Aspirin and Tylenol. Do not take antibiotics unless you have a prescription from a doctor. Over time your body develops a resistance to antibiotics and when you really need they, they will not work.
