Tongue pierced skin missing?

Today will make it a week that I have had my tongue pierced. It’s good I didn’t have any swelling the barbell was just too large witch made it hard to talk and eat. Now my tongue is white looking and around the hole the skin is red and in some spots it looks like its growing back. Some people say its normal for the skin to peel on the tongue. My friends who have them all say there tongue skin kinda left. Any tips on makin the skin come back really quick?

Theres no way to make it come back really quick.. my suggestion is just making sure you brush your tongue when you brush your teeth and making sure you rinse with water (not listerine) after meals.. I lost the tastebuds around the hole and they never came back.. so even if I take out the barbell I still can’t taste in the spot around the hole.

You mean that “crater” it seems to form, in the shape of the ball? Normal. The skin doesn’t literally peel; the flesh is just getting used to the new piercing. The large bar can be exchanged for a shorter one if it is done healing. Really, the tongue is an easy piercing to have and maintain; saliva is a natural antiseptic, and even though the mouth contains thousands of different bacteria, the saliva prevents infection splendidly.
