TIE DYING with food colouring?

I have a sports carnival tomoro and have these really old faded fisherman pants that are a really faded green colour. am I able to tie dye over them using blue food colouring so that they just last for the day I dont mind if it stains the shorts or watever I just want blue tie dyed pants and dont have time to buy dye.

I’ve used food coloring to tye-dye white t-shirts. this is how:

you have to add white vinegar to the food color or it wont stay. let it dry. then rinse it really well. anytime you wash it after that, make sure it is by itself.

don’t know if it will work on green pants, but it worked on my t-shirts.
