The Godfather - bits that still confuse me

I’m a huge Godfather fan, I have all 3 films on DVD and have watched them hundreds of times, I absolutely love it, but I have a few bits that still confuse me . . .

In the second one Kay (Michael’s wife) says that the family still isn’t legit. In what way isn’t it legit? He doesn’t do drugs, he can no longer do little “favours” like his father. He only owns casinos and hotel in Vegas . . .

Also in the 3rd one Michael requests that his son Anthony persues Law School or joins the family business? By then he has sold all casinos, hotels and everything even slightly illegit. So, what would his son do if he joined the family business? What does Michael mean?

Thanks xD

gambeling is not considered legitimate, not illegal but not legitimate. also there is that \/\/|-|0re house that fredo operates where the senator killed that chick. and michael in the third movie wants anthony to finish his law degree and come be his lawyer. he says when talking to vincent,”I dont need tough guys, I need more lawyers!”

its a conusing film

I think that Kay says that it’s illegitimate because she isn’t aware of what actually goes on in the business (Also it could be a factor of the killings and warring when Father Corleone owned the family business.

In the third one, the only possible place I think he could put Anthony, is in the role as Consigliere (an advisor in a crime family), but I already thought they had about seven of those xD.
