How soon before a test or an exam do you usually start studying?

I always find I leave things until the last minute, no matter how well prepared I want to be, even though I’ve done significantly better on every test I’ve studied for, for more than a day in advance. How early do you usually start?

Answer #1

Depends on what it is for. If I am really confident about the subject then alot of the time I won’t. but if I am unsure of the subject or there is alot that could be on the test that you don’t encounter every day then I start studying as soon as possible for instance- when I take the test for making rank in the Navy I will start studying 6 months out just because even tho it’s only a 200 question test the questions could come from any number of manuals or regulations.

Answer #2

the main rule of thumb for me is study time directly reflects the amount of information that I need to review.

Answer #3

Unfortunately, for me I enjoy procrastinating. The most I’d study before a test or exam is about 3, 4 days, a lot of other times it would be the day before, or two days before.

Answer #4

I am a lot like you. I tend to leave things for the last minute. But I have to advise against it, if you begin studying earlier and there is a topic that you don’t understand, you still have ample time to go to a teacher of friend for help. A good rule is to close the book after studying a topic, and pretend you are teaching someone what you just studied about and if you can do it really well, you pretty much know the topic

Answer #5

I never study, as I don’t feel I need to since I pass all my tests. I generally make well above passing.

If I was to fail a test, then I would definitely study for the re-take.

Answer #6

You’re in high school though, right? I was the same way then, except for my Grade 12 Chemistry final. I didn’t have retakes though, that would have been nice, and you definitely don’t get those in University =P

Answer #7

If only University does that. :( I’d do this one course so much better XD

Answer #8

When I was still in school I would study the day before or not at all for my tests… Then I got to university and I had to learn how to study properly. There is no way I can study the day before any more, because the work amount is insane! Now I read through my work before I go to class, so I’m prepared to ask questions about the stuff I don’t understand. After that, I sum up my work and file it away until a week before I have to write a test. I start studying a week before I write. All this might sound like allot of trouble and work, but it isn’t that bad. I go to class in the mornings, do my work in the afternoons and chill in the evenings. :-) This “system” of mine has ensured that I get 90% and higher for most of my tests and exams.

Answer #9

I just study the day before, I just go over the notes and stuff. Most of the stuff I already learned in class so I don’t put so much into it. I guesd it works for me to just do it at the last minute because so far it has helped me pass every test.

Answer #10

i never study b4 a test cuz it makes me nervous and then i fail the test.. i have put it to the test… i just go with it and i usually pass

Answer #11

I tell myself I will study at least three days before the test. I even write it on a calendar (which I never look at.) So I end up having to hole up in my room the day before a major test or an exam. And I never study for math. Yep.

Answer #12

depending on the class, i normally just study the day before because the way i learned everything i was able to. going over everything in class i learned right away and studying for me was just refreshing my memory. i did that all the time for anatomy and physiology hard classes but i was good in them.

Answer #13

i usually start preparing for test 2 to 3 weeks ago .because i always forget somethings or the other that i study so i try to save some time for a last final revision.

Answer #14

i usually start studying two weeks b4 doing half an hour to an hour everyday, till it gets to the last three days i revise and get my mum/ dad to help me out

Answer #15
