What exactly does the term Black Friday mean?

Is it a real holiday? I thought it was a holiday season thing, but I just saw a Target commercial for black Friday, so I’m confused.

Answer #1

Its a term that retail employees originally made up - it means the busiest shopping day after any holiday. The biggest being the day after thanksgiving…its madness and retail employees dread it.

Answer #2

That’s what confused me…I thought that, but Target just had a “Black Friday” commercial on. It must be either REALLY old or they are pushing one for publicity in the summer lol

Answer #3

It’s probably for the 4th of July, but I don’t see why they would have a Black Friday for that, it isn’t like Christmas or anything big.

Answer #4

I think they’re using the term “Black Friday” to gain customers since a lot of people go shopping on that day due to the extremely high discounts.

Answer #5

Its the day after thanksgiving. Everyone goes to the mall like 3 A.M in the morning and waits outside until the stores open and the stores are suppose to have “good” deals that day. I went the past 3 years, there wasnt much. Not really worth waking up so early, but its alright, if youre really a money saver! :)
