Is it a good thing when someone tells you "you have your own unique taste"?

Perhaps they meant your taste was strange or a little weird? I’d take it as a compliment however they said it :P. I’d rather be considered unique, weird or strange than the same as everyone else.

I guess it means that he doesn’t like your taste and he thinks that nobody else will either. I mean. It’s diplomatic but it isn’t especially nice.

I have a neighbour who has his garden arranged…like… I really don’t have a word for it. The flowers are in geometric shapes, the grass is short and he mows it every second day and he has pots with the same two sorts of flowers everywhere and it’s nowhere near beautiful. It looks like a graveyard to me. So when I talked to him, I said things like: Everyone can see that there’s a helluva lot of work in it. And It’s very special, no one else in this town has a garden quite like that one. But I just couldn’t tell him I like it, because that would have been a lie. :-/
