What sensation does a tattoo feel like?

Hey there, I want some experience from people… tell me how does a tattoo hurt, what sensation is it? Would I be able to bear it if I had a low pain tolerance.

Thanks

By the way, the tattoo would be on my back

A practical suggestion:

Visible tattoos and certain facial piercings, can hurt you in many workplaces, or keep you from getting the good job you want. So if you’re thinking about getting a them, consider keeping it in a place most people won’t notice.

Getting a tattoo is like a having a cat dig his claw in and then dragging it across your skin. That’s really the closest thing I can compare it to. The more closer to bone your tattoo location is, the more intense it will feel. I will say that in most cases, you do start to get used to the pain. Depending on how big your tat is, the longer it takes, the more it starts to feel like a really bad sunburn. I have three tattoos and also my belly button pierced, and I can say that I don’t have the best tolerance for pain. If I could do it, you could too. Just remember to get your tat placed where you want because it looks good there, not because you want it to hurt less. Go big or go home!

It sort of depends on what part of your back. If you go with the lower back, make sure its the “meaty” area. If it goes over the spine or the ribs it will smart a bit. Since its your first one your adrenaline will be pumping and you probably won’t feel much at all. Just go for it. It won’t hurt for long. Good Luck

Tattoo’s hurt. But it’s your ability to withstand pain and placement that will determine how much pain there will be.

A tattoo over the spine can be very painful, but over the shoulder blades can also hurt a lot. Think about the thickness of your skin and having a needle jabbed several thousand times into it. Mine is on my arm near my shoulder. The fill-in wasn’t too bad, but the outline hurt the most. It felt like I was being cut or sliced. I knew that wasn’t the case, but the feeling was very much like that. It wasn’t beyond what I could stand, but at times it was a little uncomfortable.

Most tattoo artists will stop and allow you to catch your breath if it gets to be too much. Just expect it to hurt, and focus on breathing and that will help you get through it.

As for the design, I would offer one suggestion.

Make really sure its what you want. You’re going to have it for a very long time.

Also stay away from peoples names, because people come and go throughout our lives and you’re not going to want an old boyfriends name on you when you start dating someone new.

I had no problems with it since I can tolerate pain, but if you have low pain tolerance you might have some. The best way to describe how it feels is - take a needle and poke yourself deep enough to make you bleed over and over again. If you’re getting it on your lower back it will hurt most when or if it hits your lower back bones. Word of advice, make sure you really like the design or have a good reason why you’re getting a tat. You don’t want to end up regreting it and have to pay more money trying to get it removed.
