Tanning (solariums)

A friend of mine regularly uses a solarium to get a tan. She recently asked me if I wanted to come with her one day and use it too. I said “Well, no I can’t, my skin doesn’t tan.” And she said “Yea, thats why you go, it makes you tanned.” I again refused and said “No I’m a natural redhead, my skin isn’t capable of tanning.” She was trying to then tell me that it doesn’t matter what your skin is like and whether it tans naturally, using a solarium will make you tanned no matter what.

This made me think…how would this be possible? If she is correct does that mean that my skin - which has never had any sort of natural tan in its life - will somehow magically develop one after going to a solarium??

I’m not going to do it, I do know the risks involved, I was just wanting an answer to the question whether it is possible for someone who doesnt naturally tan to be able to get a tan using one? Was just curious.
