I understand skin cancer is very important and dangerous… but your talking about literally hours and days at a time lying in the sun..people think that as soon as you lay in the sun you get tanned .. THATS NOT TRUE… usually it takes a day or two to actually get the tan… my best friend pretty much looks like a vampire and actually has IVORY white skin.. while im bronze.. and she always covers up her skin… even in the summer. but recently I have taken it upon my self to help her moniter her sun tans since im pretty much an expert on them.

to just get like a glow…sun tan mabe 1 hour maximum… in the REAL SUN DO NOT GO INTO TANNING BEDs… if you dont want skin cancer then dont go there… u’ll 110 percent higher chance of getting skin cancer in tanning bed then in natural sun and if your reallly worried about skin cancer which like I said requires hours a day … every day with little to no protection in the sun..

ok heres the thing… every one keeps making a fuss about skin cancer and I agree dont get me wrong…however you have to understan.. to be at a high risk of skin cancer you have to spend hours.. literaly hours in the sun EVERY DAY… and then you can get skin cancer.. but if your moderatly tanning mabe 1 hour a day or every other day then u’ll get that sumer glow..

my best friend literally has Ivory white skin and its absolut hell to try to get her tan… but I have taken it upon my self to moniter her tanning methods so she is at low skin cancer risk… if you go to sun tanning beds.. then you are 110% higher more likey to get skin cancer then natural sun…

and I have to comment on one thing … what on earth does weight have to do with tanning? yes being healthy is important… but to mention that its better to be pale and fit than tan and fat.. im tan… actually copper bronze skin.. im on my athletics team and have broken many school time records… now what Frankieg said was inapropiate and completely unneccessary..

i also have fair skin & i hated being called pale. and as much as i agree with frankieg…if your that self concious keep trying tanning…start off on the lower beds for a shorter amout of time and use a bronzing lotion.. when i first used a bronzing lotion i never put it on evenly and my hands were orange but now i just wear those playtex rubber gloves before i put it on and then put a small amount on my hands before i go tanning…

whenever you use a lotion its always better to put it on at home before you go tanning because then it can settle in your skin a little better

anyway

after going tanning in the lower bed you can move up gradually

it takes a while but then your skin starts getting tanner as you go

if your tanning salon does a monthly unlimited plan then buy that for the lower bed becase then you can choose to go every day for a month if you like

i wouldnt suggest it though.. maybe every other day.

then when thats up …get a monthly packet for the higher beds

tanning is really addicting though so please be careful. i use to get in the WORST mood if i couldnt go tanning.

I feel your pain completely. my stupid boyfriend recently made a comment about his friend looking hot with her tan. however, my two best guy friends say that pale skin is sexy. dont get urself skin cancer just to fit in, be healthy and beauty will come with it!!

Answer #5

I grew up fair and still hate being called “pale” this and that. I can tell you a couple of things. It’d be much Much MUCH better for a girl to be toned and fit AND fair (pale, white etc), than tanned and plump (fat). so focus more on having a regular exercise routine and eating right.

That said look up the supplement canthaxathin.

Answer #6

well if you never get tan and you say you’ve tried, how about buying tanning lotion? that works for most people. because im pale, and I get burnt so I just go to CVS and buy tanning lotion and thats how I get tan

Answer #7

I’m incredibly pale too and it makes me self conscience, especially when my friends comment on it… everyday. What I do, is I use a self tanning lotion and sometimes mix it with a little bit of a regular lotion if I don’t want my tan to be soo abrupt from one day to the next. They normally do the trick, you just have to find the one that realy works for you. Just make sure its even. :D

Answer #8

I have fair skin & tend to burn really easily so I dont go out in the sun a lot & when I do I wear sunscreen. Proper tanning, as in layin out in the sun can cause cancer at a later stage & so does tanning beds. The best & healthiest way to acheive a tan would be to get a do-it-yourself bronzing cream or have a bronzing spray done at a spa
