twilightmom has excellent advice. I’ve been using tampons since I’ve turned 12 and have never had any problems with them.

The number one rule to remember is good hygiene (if you take them out when you should and use the lowest absorption for your flow, you won’t get toxic shock syndrome or anything else)

Also you need to put them in deep enough for them not to hurt (I use applicators, because I find it a lot easier and comfortable)

Then overhere (I don’t know about your country) you get 2 brands

Lilets - I don’t like these because the expand ever so slightly when full and I find that they are uncomfortable for me to take out Tampax - they get a bit longer when they are full (just a little bit) and I prefer to use them.

Try different brands to begin with, some brands work and other don’t depending on the person - the same with pads, some might like ultra or kotex etc.

Also if you have problems inserting them get some ky jelly (a lubricant) to help you.

Also if you struggle to get them in, use a mirror to see what it looks like for you down there, it makes things easier

and start of with the smallest tampon I.e. mini and use it on the second day of your period when the flow is the heaviest (this will also make inserting it easier)

On a final note then, try them, you don’t have to use them if you don’t want to, but most women that I know that use them HATE pads, me included, I only wear them at night (because it’s advisable)

It will hurt when you take it out if it is not full, when full they slide right on out. That’s why you should always use the right size to fit the flow. They do take getting used to. If you start out with the small ones and work your way up (if you need to, if you only have a pretty light flow you prob wouldn’t need to. You would just have to change them more often if your heavier) it is a little easier and as your comfort level grows you change with it. Its easiest for a lot of girls to just squat a little to insert, yet others feel it works better when placing 1 foot on the toilet seat like the directions tell you. Either way is ok. And trust me, if you don’t have it in the right spot you will know. Not only will it not go any further, but it will hurt a little if you keep pushing. When you get it in place.make sure to push the plunger completely in and then push the entire applicator in with 1 finger just a little further. This will help make sure it is completely in. When you stand up you should feel no pain or discomfort. If it does feel like its not completely in, then just take a finger and push it the rest of the way in. Don’t try to pull it out because it will be dry and that WILL hurt. It may feel a little strange, but you’ll get used to it. If you continue to use them, then in a couple of mths you’ll be an old pro! (• =

It only hurts when you take it out when your not bleeding very heavy cause its dry. I havent heard of them causing infection but you can get toxic shock syndrom.thats just basically if you keep it in to long.

Answer #4

OK . . . You can only get an infection if you keep it in for over four hours. So as long as you change it you’re OK.

The first time you take it out, it doesn’t hurt, but you just may feel pressure. Just take it out slowly and it won’t hurt.

Hope I helped :)

From experancee it only hurt me when it was dry when I pulled it out, if theres blood on it then it doesnt hurt, and DONT leave it in over night!! and if was you I would use a little mirror or somthing to have a look and make sure you place it in correct then that will help it not to hurt or to feel uncomftable, Hope I helped =) x

Answer #6

You can use tamponds it dont hurt I just dont wear them cause I had friedns die from them…you cant feel them eather unless its not up there right

Answer #7

Umm…as for the response from the girl who said,” I had friends die from them”. Try not to think about that answer ok? Not a well thought out answer. TSS (toxic shock syndrome) does not occur very often anymore, although it does happen. The MAJORITY (not all) of cases were due to leaving tampons in after their period was over. Some girls have forgotten to remove that last one–others were from the old tampons that were made without applicators and you used your finger to insert it-then sometimes the string would come off leaving them unable to get it out without medical assistance OR forgetting it was in there because the string wasn’t there to remind them. If you change them regularly, keep good hygiene, and remember to take out the last at the end of your period you should have no problems at all.
