Sustainability

What does sustainablility mean in relation to physical geography?

Answer #1

I’m not sure about the relation to physical geography as such, but otherwise ‘sustainability’ means being able to continue as present, without any outside interference.

The phrase ‘Sustainable Development’ comes from the so-called ‘Brundtland Report’ - ‘Our Common Future’, which is the report of the UN Commission World Commission on Environment and Development issued by the UN in 1983. Its chair, Gro Harlem Brundtland, is from Norway (she was first Minister of the Environment, then went on to be Prime Minister, and then head of the WHO, and is currently a UN special envoy - quite a woman, eh? Maybe that didn’t exactly answer your question, but isn’t it good to know?)
