From experience, there is a kid in my school that wants to become a well known actor similar to what you want t become, and hes told me how he has an agent that gets him gigs in commercials like you said and what not. So hiring an agent if you really serious about this is not a bad idea.

From research, i took some time and many people get discovered by joining theater productions, also by entering schools that are majored in dance and art.
