What is Sunny Leone's real name and what is her real last name?

I see her name is either Karen Maholtra or Karenjit Kaur Vohra, now Kaur Vohra her last name or would Vohra be her last name? Could Kaur be her middle name if she has one? It’s an Indian name so it is quite confusing….can someone help me out too see if Kaur is her real middle name.

In reality, which is more important:

• the name you choose to give yourself, that you want to be known by, actually ARE known by, and recognised as such internationally; or

• the name(s) that somebody else gives you from time to time, with or without your own consent and/or approval, (even if they do happened to be your parents) ?

I am inclined to think that it is the former.

Furthermore, if she WANTED you to know (what you choose to classify as) her “real name”, surely she would have had the intelligence to use that name routinely in public, rather than using a pseudonym.

That’s not what I meant, her actual real name is Karenjit Kaur Vohra but is Kaur Vohra her last name in two words or is Vohra her last name? That’s all I wanted to know. But it said also that Karen Maholtra was her real name but they found out it wasn’t.

OK - Her United States passport lists:

Surname = VOHRA Given Names = KARENJIT KAUR

Since distinct cultures often have fundamental differences in their naming conventions, it is often difficult to interpret terms such as “surname”; “first name”; “middle names”; “last name”; “given name”; “family name”; “title”; etc., in a cross-cultural context.

Although born in Canada, the Ethnic/Cultural background of the woman known as “Sunny Leone” is Punjabi Sikh.

My understanding is that “Kaur” has the nature of being a formal title, given to all female Sikhs, and it means “Princess”. To many Sikhs the title “Kaur” is considered to be so important that it takes precedence over any other name, in such a manner that it would be interpreted as a new surname in a typical Western culture.

Let’s say Miss Susan Smith (her real name) marries Mr David Jones. It is conventional that the erstwhile Miss Susan Smith now changes her “title” from “Miss” to “Mrs”, and drops her former surname “Smith” in favour of her husband’s surname “Jones”.

The Western cultural convention is that: Miss Susan Smith (no longer her real name) now becomes Mrs Susan Jones (her new real name), or may even be formally referred to as: Mrs David Jones.

However, in deference to her original surname, she may perhaps choose to refer to herself as:

Mrs Susan Jones née Smith; or Ms Susan Smith-Jones;

OK so what is her “real” name ? - you tell me !

I suspect that it would be reasonable to say that Sunny Leone’s parents probably gave her the “real name” Karenjit Vohra, and that prior to being baptised as a Sikh she was not entitled to use the name Kaur. After Baptism as a Sikh, she would be required to adopt the title Kaur as a name, that many Sikhs would consider to be so culturally important as to completely replace her original surname - which had now (by comparison) become “redundant”.

However, at least at the legal level of an internationally recognised US passport, her Surname is just Vohra

At the end of the day, the only way to know for sure, what SHE considers to be HER “real name” is to ask her. But I doubt that she would be willing to tell you to be honest.

Answer #4

But we don’t know if sunny leone other real name could be Karen Malholtra. Your saying Karenjit Vohra is probably her first and last name, I get that but what would Kaur stand for?

Answer #5

Oh my bad it’s princess in Sikh but is that really a middle name? Kaur is not supposed to be used like you were saying.

Answer #6

Oh my bad Kaur means princess in sikh.
