Who of ya'll went to summer camps?

Me and my fiance got on the subject of summer camps. I went to them every summer (day time one’s, and over night one’s) and I loved them. He has never been to a summer camp because his mom was a stay at home mom and watched him over the summers. We got into a discussion about whether or not we would like to send out son to one when he is old enough.

I was all for it! I had a blast at every camp I went to. I went to BREC, I went to Camp Marydale (girlscout camp), I went to Zoo camp, and plenty of others. I think it was a great experience. I went until I was too old to go, and even after that I worked at Camp Marydale as a horse back rider instructor.

He doesn’t think it sounds that great. I’m just curious. Who of ya’ll went to summer camps, and did you enjoy it?

I went to Bible camp for a week or so every summer growing up and loved it. Met lots of different kids and made friends and it was a blast!!! Great experience!

I always went to Cmap Wahshashee (spelling?) a girl scout camp in Oklahoma. I enjoyed every minute of it and honestly never wanted to leave. There are all sorts of different activities to be involved in as well like canoeing, archery, craft making. The possibilites are endless and educational too. You’re son would have a blast.

I went to a couple camps, and I guess even if it started out that I didn’t really like it, I always got into it on like the second day… you can learn a lot and you meet new friends… I think it’s good for the kids as long as it’s something that they would be interested in…

The only summer camp that I went to was a cadet camp for a week at like a police academy, the only reason why I went was because my uncle was in charge or it and my cousin wanted me to do it with her. I would never go back there. Waking up at 6am to run a mile is not my type of fun. My brothers went to summer camps for a while when they were younger and I know they loved it every year. It’s just a way for kids to get out there and have fun with other kids.

I never went to summer camps but I think that it depends on the child whether or not you should send them. My nieces, ages 9 & 7 have both gone to summer camps from the time that they were 5 (which personally I feel is way too young). But you have to understand my sister in law…she’s one of those women who beg my mom to watch the girls because she’s “sick” of being a mother. So for them it’s a very good thing but my kids have a hard time staying at their grandparents for just one night. So, basically I think it depends a lot on the child and the parents…my sister in law looks at it as a way of “getting rid” of the girls for a week (not that you would ever do that mandyloo). If you do it for the right reasons then there’s nothing wrong with it.
