What happens if the suicide hotline calls dispatch on you?

Yeah, so I called tonight. The lady made me end up feeling even worse than when I called (I called because I could feel myself spiraling down) but after a few ‘you should do this suggestions’ she was trying to rush me off the phone, she tried to make me promise I wouldn’t hurt myself or call her if I did. I can not make such a promise, why would I want to call her again, and I never can predict when urges come or go they just do. So then she threatened to call dispatch on me if I didn’t call her back later. So that was a very pointless story, but what do they do if you get the police called on you? Personal experience would be appreciated.

They’ll usually sit and talk to you in your home for about 45 minutes to an hour. Once they believe you’re going to be okay, they leave.

Answer #2

it depends on the severity of the situation- and if there is a history of self harm or simply making the suicide calls for attention.

if there is a history of harming yourself you could be placed in police detention if the circumstances warrant it- such as if you have been cutting or other methods of self harm. they will talk to you and try to discern your true state of mind. ( again this most likely differs by state)

if you are placed in police detention you can be held in the psyche ward for up to 72 hours (varies by state i am sure) for observation- in which case the doctor will determine whether you are a danger to yourself or others and either hold you longer or let you go.

you can funmail me anytime jaes- we were friends once in another ‘guise’ here on funadvice.
