What should I do when I strain my neck really bad?

I strained my neck today and it is really bad considering that I can’t move my head and am in serious pain that I’ve been crying all day. Rubbing it doesn’t help at all and I used a heating pad and it helped until I got up. I had to take 2 advil around noon, 1 muscle spasm pill my doctor gave me a while back this evening and 2 tylonal this morning. I took then apart from each other so I did it safely but that can tell you that something is seriously wrong. I just want to feel better.

If you’ve tried all that and it’s not working, you should see a doctor.

Answer #2

I would go to a doctor and have your neck checked out, you may have pulled a muscle that will take a while to heal, or tore one. Better be on the safe said and go get checked.

Answer #3

you’d need a person with knowledge of physiotherapy, no pills can fix this, neither can you by yourself

  1. since you will not move your head, it will be stuck there in that position
  2. your muscles will start hurting even more since the stretched muscles will try to contract back and the shortened ones will feel lumpy or knotted.

Ice would probably be more helpful than a heating pad. You could also try alternating ice with heat - 20 minutes of each, back and forth a couple of times. If it persists, you can probably get the best hands-on treatment for it from a good chiropractor. Ask around for a recommendation, because chiropractors - like any other kind of practitioner - come in all levels of quality.
