Stiff neck from working on the computer too much?

Is my stiff neck from working on the computer too much? I think I’ve been over doing it the last few days, I have a stiff neck that doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Is it because I’ve been glued to the computer, or because I have a cold?

Answer #1

The top of your monitor needs to be at your forehead’s level and directly in front of you. Sit up strait, don’t slouch. keep your butt,, spine and neck aligned. Proper posture is the key to a pain free computer life. See the microsoft website for proper monitor placement.

Answer #2

I’ve have these problems before also. Make sure to stretch your neck every fifteen minutes or so. Just a slow roll a couple of times. You will also want to make sure you are stretching your back and shoulders or they will start hurting next.

Answer #3

Dear kareem, Don’t know why you have a stiff neck could be from both sitting and your cold. This is a good exercise that was given to me by my physiotherapist; stand up against the wall and slowly drop your chin to your chest. Stop when you feel a pull. Do this only a few times, repeat again every 3 hours. Hope this helps. Sue…good luck

Answer #4

Try taking short 1-3 min breaks every half hour. From what I’ve read in the past, prolonged periods of sitting with no stretching are very bad for you. Get up & do something man!

Answer #5

The problem could stem from bad visual ergonomics. A natural head position is difficult if you are over 40, and wear bifocals or no-line progressive type of lenses. This is one of the symptoms generally classified as Computer Vision Syndrom.
