Starting a clothing line...

I have a friend who is interested in starting their own clothing line. I think that’s a super cool idea! But neither of us really have any information about what goes into getting that started. So would you have to pay any “start up fees” or anything like that and if so how much? Do you need any sort of college degree? About how much money do you imagine you’d be making off the clothing line? What do you have to do to get it going? What do you do once it’s started if it gets started? I really need all the info I can get on this so please, HELP if you can!!!

You will spend more money than you’d make for a LONG time. Start up costs are whatever you want them to be. If you only want to produce 40 shirts before making more, you only pay for 40 shirts. A successful clothing line has good designs, affordable and desirable apparel, and something that sets them apart from every other clothing brand out there. It IS rather pricey to print designs of good quality; you’ll need several hundred dollars to get your foot in the door. If you want to really go cheap, I’d suggest making your own screen printing press, printing simple designs on cheap shirts, and slowly establish a brand for yourself.
