How do you start on an essay?

Try to start with a really strong sentence (possibly a question) that you think will attract the readers attention. You could start the beginning with an interesting quote or fact, and then give a bit of information about your main idea. It doesn’t have to be perfect at first. If you’re having trouble wording what you’re trying to say, then you should just continue on with the rest of your essay. Go back and edit the beginning after.

The first paragraph opens with a very general statement about the topic, and is often followed by some supporting examples, but the paragraph then finishes with a narrow statement about the topic.

All the thesis statement is is what your paper will be about in a paragraph. The conclusion is the thesis statement, just restated in the past tense. Write the body of your paper first, then the conclusion and then re-state your conclusion in a present tense. Only write the minimum. If the paper is 2 - 4 pages, your cover page is 1. Don’t give your professor anything more then the minimum. Say what you have to say in your paper in the least amount of words possible. Hope it helps.
