Is SPF 55 sunblock good for tanning?

I want to get a tan but the only sunblock i have is spf 55, sp will it give me a tan or leave me white?

Answer #1

I am pretty sure sunblock is used to protect your skin from the sun. So it will not help you gain a tan. You would need to use a sun oil or sun tan lotion.

Answer #2

It depends on how long your planning on being in the sun -with an spf 55 sunblock your going to stay white for the most part….it is a sunblock afterall. You might get some slight color but nothing noticeable.

Answer #3

You actually can tan with an SPF, because it is not a true sunblock (which is a zinc oxide formula). However, the higher the SPF, the harder it will be for the sun’s UV rays to penetrate. On that note, I feel it would be irresponsible of me not to remind you that even with a sunscreen, you risk harmful effects of the sun.

Answer #4

I use a SPF of 50 when I go to the beach and always come back with a tan. Like Colleen said, it doesn’t keep out the sun completely and you will still get a tan, you just won’t burn as badly (but the sun damage still happens)
