Spelling Competition ?

alright so the core of the competition are high-specialist or archaic and barely used words

could you give 10 verbs for instance, which would have a solid chance to appear in the competition ?

English is pretty hard. Some things are very hard to spell. even something simple. I remember I had the worst time trying to spell “their” until seventh grade!!! I did not get the I before e except after c and I still don’t!! their has no c in it… I is after e… it’s confusing. but I can spell it now. however, the hard words can be really hard to learn.

For the most part, American children can write English correctly. There are some illiterate children, but that has nothing to do with it. Spelling bees have been a tradition of American schools for decades. They are academic competitions whose point is to test the knowledge of the participants.

The English language is a bit more complex than other languages in terms of spelling; I.e. Spanish words are very simple to spell out, as they are spelled exactly how they sound. In English, this is not so. A word like “phone” appears phonetically to just be “phone,” but this is incorrect. A word like “opossum” is phonetically “pos-um” but that is also incorrect. Thus, the Spelling Bee was determined a competition to determine the individuals most adept at the correct spelling of difficult English words. Believe me, if I asked you to spell a word like “pulchritudinous,” I think you would have a difficult time!
