Answer #7

To clear things out a bit, You are asking about Icelandic Eiður Smári Guðjohnsen (as mentioned above), who had a very successful career with Chelsea as a striker and was part of an amazing duo with Hasselbank. Eiður has played with these teams (in time order): Valur (is) - PSV(hol) - KR(is) - Bolton(en) - Chelsea(en) - Barcelona(sp) - Monaco(fr) -currently in Tottenham(en)

The others mentioned in earlier answers are

  • Jóhannes Guðjónsson (Real Betis, Aston Villa, Wolves, Leicester,Burnley),
  • Bjarni Guðjónsson (Newcastle, Genk, Stoke, Bochum, Coventry, Plymouth) *(the third Being Þórður Guðjónsson, allso a player)
  • And then finally Guðjón Þórðarson their father (hence their last-name Guðjóns-SON) who has had a long manager career, both for Iceland national team and clubs (Stoke, Barnsley, Notts County to name few)

Clubs: Wolves (loan), Aston Villa (loan), Leicester City, Real Betis, RKC Waalwijk, AZ Alkmaar, Genk Position: Midfielder

The strong tackling and talented midfielder had a season which saw him have to battle into the first team at Turf Moor.

Joey made numerous appearances from the bench, strengthening up the midfield in the latter stages of games.

In a memorable game at Vicarage Road in November 2007, the former Aston Villa man scored from the bench in the Claret’s 2-1 over Watford. However, four days later he received a red card for a second-bookable offence in the game at Hull City that saw 4 players sent off.

The charismatic Icelandic’s experience in the top flight is sure to benefit Owen Coyle in the 2008/09 campaign.

Burnley captured Gudjonsson from AZ Alkmaar for £150,000 in January 2007.

The 26-year-old goalscoring midfielder signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Turf Moor.

Gudjonsson previously played in the Netherlands for MVV Maastricht and RKC Waalwijk before moving to Spanish side Real Betis in 2001.

In England he had a five-month spell on loan at Aston Villa in early 2003 and spent a year with Wolves in 2003/04 before joining Leicester on a two-year deal in July 2004.

Last year at the Walkers Stadium, Gudjonsson swept the board in the club’s player of the season awards, winnning Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and goal of the season, for his strike from the half-way line in the 3-2 home win over Hull.

After two years with the Foxes, the Icelandic International then moved to Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2006. Season 2007 - 08

Answer #9

Eiður Smári Guðjohnsen (born September 15, 1978 in Reykjavík), known in English as Eidur Gudjohnsen, is an Icelandic football player who is a current striker with FC Barcelona, having signed for the Spanish club on June 14, 2006. For the six previous years he had been a midfielder/striker with the English Premiership club Chelsea, having made his name with Bolton Wanderers in what is now the Football League Championship. He is the captain of the Iceland national team and is referred to as the greatest Icelandic player who is currently in the game. For Barcelona he wears the number 7 shirt and for Iceland number 9. So far in his professional football career, Guðjohnsen has scored 128 goals in all competitions. He is the son of Arnór Guðjohnsen, a former professional footballer.

Answer #10

Johannes Karl Gudjonsson plays for Burnley at the moment.

Previous clubs = Real Betis / Aston Villa / Wolves / Leicester / AZ Alkmaar (Dont know about Chelsea but he could easily have been on loan for a short spell)

Nationality = Icelandic

Be careful… three other players with the same surname also play football… one is retired and the other two play in Iceland.
