How bad is it to smoke while taking birth control pills?

I know it’s bad to smoke…but why do they say not to smoke while taking birth control pills. Will something happen? I mean, if something would happen I don’t see why my doctor would give them to me knowing I smoke.

Maybe it affects the pill? Like maybe it lessens your chances to not get pregnant?

U shudnr smoke because it increases ur chances for heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure. I wud do the depo shot

It’s bad for your heart. Increases your chance of having a heart attack… My birth control pills say “woman over 35 shouldn’t smoke while on the pill.” You should be fine since you’re still young, but that’s something to think about once you are older.

Oh yeah and higher risk for blood clots

It’s the effect of the nicotine and the extra estrogen combined, it increases chances of heart attack and other heart issues.

Is it like a slim chance of that happening though? I just don’t understand why my doctor would give me birth control, knowing I smoke. He didn’t tell me I couldn’t take it unless I stopped smoking first. :/

Well, I’m not taking them to prevent pregnancy.

It increases the chances. Like smoking increases the chances of lung, throat, and mouth cancer. I can’t give you a percentage… It depends on like a 1000 variables.

Adding to this, the reason you shouldn’t smoke when using the pill is because it can cause blood clots as well. It’s best not to smoke at all.

It’s reall not bad at all. I do it nearly every day
