How much does a shrink usually cost?

Does it depend on age for the cost?

Answer #1

The cost is too important to have a SHRINK screw up your life. I have never known anyone who was helped by a shrink. They eventually get on medication and distroy themselfs through that. Medication through a shrink is an escape. Shrinks have no real answers to the WHY of the persons problems. They themselves will admit that. So goes the APA.

Answer #2

It’s not that I want someone to give me answers, I just want someone to listen to me and not judge and someone who won’t tell other people my business. Someone that I can trust.. I DO NOT want any medication from any people.

Answer #3

If you dont have health insurance seeing a therapist or psychologist can be quite pricey, and they all set their prices on their own. It can be anywhere from $100 to $1,000 depending on what that particular therapist charges. There are other options though. Your school guidance counselor, college mentor (if your in college), teen hotline numbers, or even just a trusted adult that you feel will listen and not judge.

Answer #4

If you just need someone to talk to because there are some things you want to get off your chest than a professional licensed counselor is probably your best bet. Counselors often charge $50-$100/session but have been known to lower or even waive their fee for people who have trouble paying.

Answer #5

I was also disillusioned with the mental health profession. Nobody I know who goes to psychologists or psychiatrists ever was cured. The thing is psychological conditions are managed rather than cured. Someone who is depressed will probably always be depressed but they may be able to find some purpose in life. Someone who is anxious will always be anxious but they may learn to be able to face the world. Someone who is schizophrenic will always be schizophrenic but they may be able to learn to be self-sufficient.

There are a lot of people who can not function without medication. I know people who could not hold down a job, associate with other people, or even take care of their basic needs without medication. They would destroy themselves without medication.

Answer #6

And I suppose your alternative to therapy would be what? Magical herbs with no scientific backing to show they work? It’s too bad you weren’t helped and you were disappointed with the results, but if psychiatry were destroying lives than the U.S. would have self destructed decades ago.

Answer #7

Depends on whether you have insurance or not and where you go. Community clinics can do it low cost or for free depending on the person’s circumstances. There are training clinics that will also do it low cost. People in private practice, it’s $50 up for a counselor, $80 up for a psychologist, $150 up for a psychiatrist. There’s no difference in how old the person is. But, given you are underage, you will need parental approval. The laws differ from state to state, but as I understand it, only CA is about to make parental approval unnecessary.

Answer #8

The US is self distructing itself daily through psychiatry. The psychs and big pharma know it. Guess what they want. Did you know a sick person is easier to handle than a healthy person. A healthy person thinks, a sick person can’t even manage thought.
I know I come across this all of the time. And by the way, one can get of medication, get rid of anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, very easily.

Answer #9

Well that is quite a conspiracy theory. And yet despite the self destruction the past few decades have probably seen more technological advances and medical advances than the past several millennia. Can’t be self destructing fast enough I suppose. As for the healthy not being able to think, I do have to wonder what sort of people you’ve been around. Some of the greatest artists this world has ever seen would probably be diagnosed with something today, they managed to produce amazing work nonetheless. And it’s nice that you’ve managed to find a cure to schizophrenia. You’d think they’d be handing out prizes and what not for that? No one says medication is necessary for everyone who is depressed and suffers from anxiety. I think every other avenue should be tried first.

Answer #10

Sure, just read the newspapers about all the people who used them and hurt others. Watch the video on Utube “Dead Wrong”, and then you tell me what is right or wrong.
