Should I try to get in touch with my sisters and brothers?

Should I try to get in touch with my sisters and brothers? I know that my mother and father don’t get along with me since I’ve had problems with them, but, I’d love to get in touch with my sisters and brothers if possible. Would it be alright? I also know that from life, experience I’ve been abused by a few people which were my mother, father, and one of my sisters. How should I go about to try to make amends? Since they never come and visit.

I think you should give it a try if you really want to, but don’t jump head-first expecting everything to be as you want it to. Talk to them and gauge their reactions, gauge how they treat you and especially see if they RESPECT you. I did this once but with an old flame of mine, but he was very abusive – verbally, not physically – and when I got back in touch with him again, he hadn’t changed at all. I cut ties with him after seeing that. But at least you go in there knowing what to expect, and when you step out of there if need be, you’ll know that you did not gain or lose much in doing so.

Answer #2

Simply a Rose to brighten your day,         And maybe lessen the cares in your way;         And also, too, to help you to know,         That in knowing you, many others grow!

I think I’d attempt to write them letters expressing your desires to reestablish relationships with them. You might want to include your parents.

Granted, they may have been less than perfect in their relationships with you while you were growing up, but time can heal many problems. If you can find it within you to forgive them, you may find much greater enjoyment in life.
