should I get this dog?? HELP

so…ok well I really want this dog. Its a saint bernard (I’ve wanted one since I started reading those Mudge books when I was like 9)

my friend is giving it to me…which saves me like $1,000 in the future, because pure breds are super expensive

but. heres the catch: I dont have ANY money. like, im literally in the negatives in the bank. or credit card. whatever you want to call it. anyways so yeah I can barely feed myself, im living with my sister and yeah. no money. but she said she would buy the food till I get a real job :)

I REALLY want it. hes so adorable and hes potty trained and everything..I just dont know. I’ve asked a couple of friends and they just say yeah get it. I dont think they were even listening..friggen video games.

so, what do you think? get the dog or wait till I can really afford it?

Good Luck with that dog, especially if you do not have any money. Dog food gets expensive, and that type of dog would eat A lot. They are messy dogs, with drinking water and eating. So you might want to take that into consideration too. The Vet bills are not cheap either. So you really might want to think against it for awhile until you do have more money.

DO NOT GET IT until you have money, me and my mum got a dog, but didnt have a lot of cash and had to give it away, it made me sso sad

I would say Don’t get it, it is like having a child, you need money for food, interceptor, frontline, office visits, vaccines, and depending on where you live Rabies vaccine and dog license is the law. If you can not provide a good home right now then don’t make the dog pay for it. Please think about it, and when you are ready, look at your local pound or St. Bernard Rescue groups. Please think about it, you said it yourself, you can’t even feed yourself rith now. This dog will grow to be huge and need lots of food and grooming. Please wait.

Listen to Harleyrider, she is a vet’s assistant and she’s seen it all. You really don’t want to get the pooch right now, they are expensive to take care of, including food, vet bills (for shots, checkups, yearly visits, and of course emergencies which can turn extremely expensive), toys, a kennel/bed, making your house puppy-proof, etc etc…

If you really love the breed and the future St Bernard you’ll get, it’s better to wait when you are guaranteed to be able to take care of it financially and time-wise. The local shelter and rescue groups always have dogs available, you can call them when you’re ready if they have a St Bernard pup available or put your name down to reserve a pup that could come in in the future.

I’ve been yearning for a puppy of a certain breed for 23 years, and I’m still waiting to get one because of an unideal financial situation at the moment. But I know that it’ll be even better when I get my pup knowing that I can fully take care of it no matter what.
