Should I get a tattoo on my wrist?

I want to get a tattoo when I turn 18 (in two months) and so I went to a tattoo shop to ask some questions the other day and the lady there said when you get your first tattoo it’s really wise to get it somewhere where you can’t see it just in case you don’t like the feel of it. If you do, then you can get another one. The thing is, I REALLYY want to get this design on my wrist and I know exactly what I want. Should I get it or get another one somewhere else first?

Also what should you look for when you go into a tattoo shop to know if they’re a good place. I’ve only been to that one shop so I don’t really know.

Thanks, xox

Thanks guys :)

Maybe I should get a small tattoo on my back first. When I walked in the shop, it looked clean but I could smell stale cigarette smoke so I guess that’s not a good sign… Although the people there were very nice and sounded mature. I’ll keep looking around and I’ll decide on a different design I want for my back, maybe below my neck.

“a lot of tattoo artist are druggiesss :p lol”

What a false stereotype. That is not the case at all. Most tattoo artist do not do drugs, even if they did, they do not do them at work, they are professionals who take their jobs very sersiously.

I would put a lickem and stickem tattoo on your wrist first, See if you like it there. Go to a couple job interviews and see if they comment on the tattoo that is visiable. Or see what your current job says about it. It is your body, I get that. I have 10-12 tats right now. but all placed in a way that when I wear pants and long sleeves you cannot see any of them. So all I am getting at is see how the public and the work place reacts to you with a (fake) tattoo. And see how that makes you feel. After that, I think you are smart and know what to look for. So good luck. But I would give it a test run first.

I agree.

In the tatoo parlor that I worked in, we always recommended people to get their first tattoo in a place they can hide. So many people get a tattoo and then realize they do not like them, and they are stuck with them in visable places. Also, a lot of jobs will not allow you to have visable tattoos and a wrist one can be hard to hide sometimes. I would really consider getting your first one somewhere else, and thinking about what kind of job you would like in the future and if they would allow them. Believe me, I have visbale tattoos that can not be hidden with anything, and a lot of places have turned me down for jobs in the past.

As for a good shop, don’t go for the cheapest price, cheap prices often mean cheap work. If you want quality you have to pay for it.

When you walk into the shop - look around. Is it clean? Is there dirt on the floor? Does it need to be dusted? A dirty shop is a red flag! If they can’t take the time to clean their shop - who’s to say their equipment is clean and sterile.

Also, before you get tattooed, ask to look at the needles. Everytime they tattoo you they should open a BRAND NEW needle. Also look at the ink - they should be pouring a small amount of ink into a small container and not dipping the needle into the big thing of ink. This is for health reason’s. They should always pour new ink for your tatoo.

yes get it…

I think you should get a tattoo where you want it. You can always cover it with bracelets or makeup. Here is a video where a girl covered up her wrist tattoo in like 2 minutes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6ZfPz98Jv0

Hi,

I don’t know a lot about tattoo’s but if it were me I would get a small tattoo somewhere you couldn’t see then wait a month and THEN get the you wanted on your wrist. I would recomend ( for your first/test tattoo ) to get a small love heart or your initials on your ankle or something.

HERE ARE SOME LINKS TO WEBSITES THAT KNOW a lot ABOUT TATTOO’s:

When I decided I wanted a tattoo, I wasn’t sure which place to go. But then I decided on a place a couple of friends and people I know went, and same artist. So I knew for sure that I could trust this place if it has a good rep. Also picking an artist, they should have books of pictures of tattoos they’ve done previous so you know their experience.

On where, it depends on whether you want people to see it. Whether it affects on your job in the future. My first tattoo I got on my back. I already want another one! They can be addicting. Just make sure you know what you really want!!

I LOVE wrist tattoos! I have a “peace dove” on my wrist with the word “love” below it in cursive and it is my absolute favorite tattoo. =D if your passionate about your tattoos then I say… GO FOR IT GIRL!!!

Answer #11

Well some places can do temorary tattoos for cheap and they stay on for like 2-3 weeks. You can do that on your wrist to see if you like it. If you do then get a real one(:

Also, look to see if its clean. If they smoke in there, dont make business with them. Thats the first sign of dirtyness .. Make sure theres not dirty bandaids, wash cloths, and so forth laying around ..

Of course almost any tattoo artist is gunna look crazy, hard coreish, maybe even goth so you cant judge how professional they are by looks .. Look in their eyes though, you can usually if they have been using drugs and you dont want a high guy putting a permant mark on your skin. -a lot of tattoo artist are druggiesss :p lol.

So good luck(:

hi first you have to see your mind
but as for me I don’t like it and it’s your shouse hanny …

Answer #13

Always look around. Don’t just settle for the first shop you see. Remember this is your body and your skin they are going to be dealing with. You want to make sure they are clean, responsible, professional, etc.
