Should I get a second dog?

I live in a free standing house with a fairly sized back yard. I have a minnie poodle at the moment who is an inside dog and is fully house trained she is a very playful pup (1 years old) im thinking about adopting a 5 month old maltese x silky from the animal rescue. I’ve been told he is very playful and toilet trained. My poodle loves other dogs and never wants to leave friends places when there is another dog around. We have no children and I love animals.. Is it a good idea to get a second dog or will it change the behavior of the first one?

if your poodle loves dogs then a new dog would be a great idea! especially a rescue dog… thats helping such a good cause! your poodle’s behavior might change for a few days, but as long as you make it clear to the poodle that this dog is not a replacement and that you love them both equally, everything should go quite well!

Do it!! Everything you’ve said about your dog…from his age to his personality say that he’ll accept another pooch and love it! Since he’s fully housetrained, it gives you time to housetrain the younger pup (and it may take longer, if it’s not been done yet)…

They’ll love each other’s company…little partners…

GO FOR IT!!

Hey all thanks for the comments :) I got the second puppy he has been here for a day. He acts like we’ve owned him forever he is such a cuddler! They have been fighting a little bit but as time goes on they are getting better and starting to play. They are both such happy and playful beautiful creatures. And yep ameoba the rescue organisation include desexing, needles and lifetime registration with the counsel as part of a fee when you adopt the doggy. Plus they did a full inspection of the yard. I’ve got a fairly large fenced yard with a covered outdoor area. Plus I got him a name tag with my contact details at the engravers even tho he is still on his two week trial, just in case he does a magic act and does get away.

What a gift from God such a beautiful loving little puppy dont know how anyone could have abandoned him!

Yes, two dogs will be happier than one…Yours sounds very sweet and playful. I hope both will be spayed/neutered… Is your yard fenced? and do you have a small doggie door? I had two small dogs once and they played so much that I installed a small door and they loved being able to play both inside and outside… Just introduce them slowly, don’t leave them alone in the beginning and they should do very well together. How wonderful that you are adopting!!! My hat is off to you.

It might change the behavior of the first one for a while but I have four dogs, and they all have adjusted and love the new arrivals like their buddies now. They sleep next to each other an dplay together well all the time, and they are all different breeds. So I think you should get the maltese, and besides your doing it a huge favor.

Good Luck!
