underwaterophelia got it right. There is no official language in the US. You can make English a mandatory language in school and for migrants to successfully immigrate, but other than that they should leave it as it is.
I think underwaterophelia may be right, though I WISH it were the official language. the question asks SHOULD it be, I think yes. COULD it be? I would doubt that would ever happen…
