Can someone tell me the difference between a carbohydrate, lipid, protein, and nucleic acid and give me an example of each?
I can’t go into great detail but I can give a kinda example
carbs are what turns into fat cells but you need them to keep your body going. a lipid is something inside a cell and something in the cell uses it to function nucleic acid is in your dna…I believe
and protein I can’t answer for you cause I will tell you something completely off
this is exactly what my class at school is working on I would tell you what they are but I forgot sorry.
sorry I have nooo idea
Hope this isn’t too confusing?!
They are all organic molecules as they contain carbo.-hydrogen bonds.
Carbohydrates: the name describes what they are made of - one part carbon molecule to one part water molecule. Carbohydrates can be described as saccharides, e.g. monosaccharide, di and poly. saccharide is just another word for carbohydrate. Monosaccharides are single sugars, disaccharides are double and poly are polymers composed of several sugars.
Lipids: are molecules that are hydrophobic, they are not attracted to water because the non-polar covalent bonds linking carbon and hydrogen aren’t attracted to the polar bonds of water. The four major groups of lipids include fats, phospholipids, waxes and steroids.
Proteins are made up of hundreds or thousands of smaller units called amino acids, which are attached to one another in long chains. There are 20 different types of amino acids that can be combined to make a protein. The sequence of amino acids determines each protein’s unique 3-dimensional structure and its specific function.
A nucleic acid is a macromolecule (large molecule) composed of chains of monomeric nucleotides. Nucleotides are organic compounds that consist of three joined structures: a nitrogenous base, a sugar, and a phosphate group. Nucleotides are structural untis of RNA and DNA. Molecules carry genetic information or form structures within cells. The most common nucleic acids are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA).
Carbs: our sugars, backbone of DNA Lipids: energy storage Proteins: workhouse, cell structure support Nucleic Acid: information storage
