Carbohydrates are broken down in the mouth with a enzyme called amylase which breaks the carbohydrates down into starch which makes up part of molecule called glucose which provides energy for the cell in the form of ATP during cellular respirtation when mixed with other molecules. ATP is the main energy for the body without ATP then the body cannot survive

Carbs are complex sugars, and sugars provide energy for the cell (mitochondrion). Pretty simple!
