School, work, and pets...

So, here is my situation. I am in college and am going full time. My college classes and homework take up quite a bit of time as I am sure you can imagine. I just started a job which I can honestly say that I am REALLY not happy with. It is located downtown and there is no where for me to park so I have to park down the road in a parking ramp and pay to go to work which is complete crap, then I get out of work at night so I am gonna have to walk through downtown to get to my car all alone. I am very uncomfortable with this. Now today, my dog had a seizure so we took him to the vet and the best option was to have him put to sleep… it has been a VERY rough day. So I’m just wondering what everyone else would do in this situation. I am not happy at this job and I am busy with school and now I have to deal with my dog being gone. Should I just give up on this job and finish off the semester with just school and take it easy and then in the summer try to find a job that I actually am happy with? I financially am able to do this. I have been saving most of my money since I start working 6 years ago. So its not like a couple more months without a job is going to be horribly difficult to do. I am just so lost right now. What does anyone recommend?

I’m going to address the one section that stood out to me the most: it sounds like dealing with your car is causing you more stress than it could possibly be relieving, so if it were me, I would be eliminating it as much as possible. If both your school and work are located downtown, why not take public transportation? I worked downtown and had a car when I worked in Portland but took the light rail to work every day instead of driving. It saved time, traffic aggravation, an enormous amount of money in parking and gasoline, and I really, really loved the down time each way for reading.

In New York now, I no longer have the car, but even if I did, I couldn’t imagine not taking the subway. Dealing with parking would be a nightmare.

I’m not sure what your pub. transportation situation is in MI, but it sounds like it has to be better than dealing with the mess you do now.

I am so sorry for the loss of you family member, it is never easy loosing a love one.

I think you have already answered you question. You need to do what is right for you and what you think will be the best turn out. Sounds like yu already made up your mind, but make sure you are doing this with a clear head.

Mikeh actually has a pretty good suggestion…

It does sound like you dont want to be at work though. What has been keeping you there if you hate it so much?

Is there any way you can take a couple of days off? They say (I dont know who says, but they do say) that when you’ve just suffered a loss, it isnt the best time to be making a big decision, like quitting a job… So if possible, take a few days off to deal with the emotions you’re going through, maybe make a pro/con list of why you should stay and why you shouldnt, and deep down you know what the right decision is… you just need the confidence to do it… you dont need anyone’s approval or backing…
