Is it safe to breathe in exhaust fumes from an electric dryer?

Answer #1

Electric dries exist in two versions:

One blows the fumes right out through a tube. You need to have an open window or a hole in the wall for them.

The other one collects the water (condensing drier) and blows out hot air.

If you have a model that blows fumes out through a window or a hole in the wall, then, depending on the length of the tube, the air might be hot with steam and you could burn your skin if you go close enough to breathe it in. You usually blow it outside so the condense water does not damage your furniture and house. You’d have fog if you blew it to an inside room. And hat can cause mold and other ugly things.

The other model just blows hot excess air into the room. Like a hair drier.

Both driers will contain filters that filter out dust and fluffs. Yet the excess air may contain miniature particles of fabric. Those may be unhealthy if you are exposed to them a lot. Just like people who work in bakieries get problems with flour dust or people who work in mines get problems with rock dust, someone who works in a laundry and is exposed to drier air constantly might get health problems with drier dust.

As for normal household usage, you should not suffer any problems if you are otherwise healthy and keep a safe distance from the heat.
