Who made the rule that girls had to shave their legs and guys didn't?

Why do we always have to put in so much effort aha?

Answer #1

well, this is like virginity, its a male world problem, men like sleek legs on women, just as they like them “untouched” while they do the complete opposite and call it “macho” go figure that one out….

Answer #2

Well this is my brothers way of explaining it.

“If a girl is shaven, shes colder, and smooth..and just.. Anyways, She’ll seek out a man who isnt shaven, to get ‘warmer’ so they can cuddle. If she isnt shaven then she’ll be warm and therefor wont need to warm up or cuddle”. My brother is, ehm, wierd lol.

Girls don’t “have” to shave, but most of us choose to because it’s viewed as attractive in our society. Or, simply because we like the feeling of having soft legs haha. Personally, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. At least we don’t have to worry about shaving our faces. :P

Answer #7

Hollie, who imposed this “rule” on you and drummed it into you that you “must” shave your legs? Would I be wrong to guess it was your mother?

It’s true that the prevailing gender rules and roles assign certain powers and privileges to men (and certain other benefits to women), but that doesn’t mean that men are solely responsible for that gender system. For a whole society to accept such rules takes a broader consensus, including most women. That’s why many traditional gender rules have been revised after large numbers of women rebelled against them.

However, for better or for worse, most (not all) woman still find “femininity” - and the practices through which it is maintained - to their liking. That doesn’t mean you have to count yourself among them, if you prefer otherwise!

Answer #8

I’m a man (hard to believe, right?), and I have never once in my whole life shaved my face. Sometimes, like now, I keep my beard trimmed close, and sometimes I’ve let it grow wild like ZZ Top. But no razor has ever scraped my skin - except for non-facial surgery.

Answer #9

The media did. Girls don’t HAVE to shave. Most just choose to because the media’s view on an attractive girl is one with sleek shiny legs. It’s really just for cosmetic reasons. It’s up to you whether you want to shave or not. In my opinion, it’s not bad to have some hair, but I wouldn’t want to be hairier than a man. I guess for me it’s all about femininity. Of course it differs from person to person. I totally agree that girls are always pressured to put so much effort on themselves. But it’s really just the media. I wish I was a guy sometimes, haha. Easier life~

Answer #14

Well, think about it, would you like to have a man have completely shaved legs, wearing make-up, and trying to be as clean as possible, and, would you like to take the place of a man, its the womans job to be the clean, well rounded one inside the relationship, im not at all downing woman in any way, im just saying, woman are WAY cleaner, and WAY more put together, men, on the other hand, are meant to be the strong one, tell me, if you were about to be robbed, would you not want to have a strong dude there to protect you?

Answer #15
