How do I do this to my rubber tree plant?

I have a rubber tree plant that has grown over six feet tall with no limbs. I need to prune it back and would like to start a new plant from the clip. how do I do this?

Answer #1

The piece that you cut off the top can be easily rooted - the part that needs to be stuck in some vermiculite, should have a ‘node’ on it, thats the bump left where a leaf as been stripped off. Try a small piece to root, say 6 inches. Once it establishes roots, you can plant it.

Your original tree should also start branching out once you’ve pruned a bit off the top.

Answer #2

Its a tropical plant (ficus elastica) - grows inside as a house plant, or outside in warm climates.
