So a week ago i got a new mattress. My cat has been very ill recently and has been urinating on it through out today, it STINKS. I dont know what to do about the smell. Especially since this matress is new. Any ideas?
My friend had the same problem with her cat marking its territory. She went to Petsmart and they gave her Nature's Miracle Urine Destroyer. The company uses things like mint and other nice smells to naturally get rid of the smell. The lady at the store said to let your mattress dry out completely before putting it on because adding this to the already wet mattress could cause mildew. She said if that doesnt work wash the bed with a vinegar solution one part vinegar and 2 parts water let dry then wash with baking soda solution then use the spray after vacuuming the baking soda up. Air out the mattress and its like new again.
Febreeze claims their stuff works. But i would suggest buying the febreeze powder, pouring it directly on your mattress, let it sit for about half an hour, then vaccuum it up. It's made for carpets, but it works just fine on a mattress. Then use febreeze spray. If the smell persists, do it again, until it's fresh. Of take a febreeze liquid all purpose cleaners and scrub it with that and water, but make sure you get all of it up. Let me know if this helps!
Try buying a new mattress and putting your cat to live In the living room. also make sure to buy those baby gate locks so at night the cat won't pass threw It will be In the living room. Also take the cat to the vet pronto.
Once you've cleaned it using a power/spray/whatever, you could lay your mattress out in the sun, that'll kill germs.
