Renting movies from iTunes?
What is the deal with rented movies from iTunes? How long do we get to keep them? Can we download them onto our iPods? Why are they so cheap? Can anyone tell me what its about, because there is a movie I want to get off of iTunes but it says I can only rent it.
Rented movies on iTunes is meant to be like the Video store - you rent it, and once finished watching it, you take it back. That’s the idea anyway, and in the iTunes example you don’t take it back - instead it deletes itself.
Once you have “rented” a movie, I think you have 30 days to watch it before it deletes itself, and if you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it before it deletes itself. You can watch them on your computer, or your iPod - you can even start watching it on your computer, stop it halfway through, move it to your iPod, and continue watching, or vice versa.
The reason it is so cheap is because you are “renting” it, not buying it to keep - just like the price of renting a movie from the video store vs the cost of buying it on DVD to keep. The idea is that you get to watch the movie once, maybe twice if you play it again within the 24 hours. A lot of movie companies are more comfortable with the rental idea than you buying the movie to own on your computer - so that is why there is (or will be) a greater variety of rentals than actual movies available for purchase.
Hope this helps! And what was the movie, by the way?
thanks I was gonig to blow some cash on movies too. Is it like this with tv shows too.
According to the terms of iTunes rentals, the movies or TV-episodes have 30 days of preserved period on user’s computer, once the rental period expire, the digital download files will expire automatically. And when you start to play the movie, you have only 24 hours to watch it. By the way, if you want to get ur movies DVD to iTunes on Mac, check this tutorial: http://funadvice.com/r/15oiv0it2nj
