How to remove petroleum jelly from a cat's paws?

So recently my friend’s cat burnt it’s paws. It was minor burns, so she used the age old remedy of petroleum jelly and gauze wrap. The problem is, she’s an airhead, and instead of cleaning off the jelly, she kept slathering more on. So now the poor thing has dry, crusty jelly on it’s paws. The front ones are okay, the back ones are horrid. The closest vet is 5 hours away. My dad suggested hot water to soften it, but it’s hard because the kitty won’t hold still. So any other helpful tips?

Answer #4

First of all - putting petroleum jelly on a burn is the worst thing you can ever do - all it does is hold in the heat which makes the burns worse … please inform your friend of this. Use soap and water to try getting as much as you can off and the cat will clean the rest off as it’s naturally inclined to do.

Answer #5

Peroxide or rubbing alcohol
