First of all, the light bulb has to be designed to work at the maximum efficiency possible in a -18¢XC environment or more. Secondly, it is easy to frost in the freezer, which means the surface material of light bulb would have to be specially designed to prevent it from gathering liquid particles. Otherwise, the life span of the light bulb will be shortened greatly. After considering these two requirements, the cost of the light bulb in the freezer seems enormous.

Both of my freezers on my fridges have lights in them. The small cheap chest freezer I have lacks a light though.
