Really bad wrist.

Alright, so I am an artist as well as a musician and a writer, so I use my wrists and hands A LOT. I have always had rather weak and small bones, so it’s no surprise that I already have carpel tunnel and problems with my right wrist.

It has always been so painful and it aches alll the time.

Well, I went to a Paramore concert the other night, and I was raising my arms… just as I brought my right arm down, this girl decided to wail on me and she jabbed her elbow RIGHT into the bad part of wrist. I screamed so loud, it hurt that bad.

I went to the medic and missed my favorite song. :(

Now it is all black and blue, and the carpel tunnel feels like it has tripled in pain.

My question is, my mother and I are super poor, and we can’t afford insurance for me… and my wrist is KILLING me… and I am dying to draw. I think I’ll kill myself if I can’t draw another day… it even hurts to type.

What should I do? Should I just go to the doctor and pay a bill we can’t afford? Is there any other inexpensive way to help my wrist?

You don’t list your birth date in your profile, so it is impossible to know how old you are.

If you are under 18, you might see if their is any kind of health care, like “Kids Care”, available to you through your state’s welfare system.

You might also consider checking to see if there are any local “clinics” that treat low income people and families.

Although I seriously recommend medical attention, for now I’d suggest that you soak it a couple of times a day, 30 minutes at a time, in very warm water. That would help the circulation allowing for the blood in the bruises to disperse and any swelling to go down. I would also consider wrapping the wrist with an “Ace” bandage to immobilize it, preventing further injury, and give it a chance to heal.

Not being able to draw or paint for a few weeks may be a necessary sacrifice now in order to prevent more serious harm.

You may be in your teens or early twenties. Remember, pain is your body’s signal that something is wrong and is your body’s attempt to get you to “slow” down so that your body can heal itself. Don’t overdo or you may be crippling yourself for the future.

well yes, you should go to the doctor so he can see whats wrong with it, maybe even get it x-rayed in the meantime try bandadges that help it I forgot what there called but you can get ones for your wrist theres ones that are sstretchy thick matirial, like a sock, that slips on your wrist and keeps it from moving to much 9so it wont hurt as much) and things like a wrist brace even. also put some ice on it for now, and give it a a rest but try and get the first thing I mentioned. you can probably pick up the material stuff from your pharmacy for pretty cheap. also you could even practice drawing with your other hand for a while! hope that helped
