When you read a whole story do you understand it the first time?

It depends on the subject of the material. If it is about something that I have known well before, then usually I can get the idea in the first reading. But I will re-read it on the part where I need to make sure. But if the topic is something new, then yes, I need to read it again and again, Sometimes I make the mind map of it in order to see the whole idea or the connection among the parts. :-)

If I was actually paying attention properly, then yes defeinitely, I understand it the first time. If I was also watching TV or doing something else, then sometimes I have to reread it. I also may have to reread something if it was extremely complex and very badly written.

Yes and no. Sometimes because of complexity, you will have to read it more than once. Sometimes you may miss something cause ur mind is still focusing on what it just read. Sometimes u may just be in a different frame of mind.

I never can.. I always need to read everything about three times for me to understand exactly what they are trying to say.. Sometimes i hate it because of my college exams, every question i need to read like 3 times because if i dont understand one word, i will not understand it, or get the wrong concept..

There are some stories that I’ve read dozens of times (at least!), and I find new understandings every time I read them. Like the stories in the books of Genesis and Exodus, for example.
