What are ration books and what were they used for?

Answer #1

Ration books were used by civilians in WW2 and were a series of stamps allocated each month. The purpose was to keep supplys for those fighting overseas available without the civilian population’s demand creating shortages and driving the prices up. Pretty much everything was rationed, food, clothing, gas, etc. Every month a civilian family would get the stamps and use them to make their purchases. If you ran out, you were out of luck till the following month. Sugar, flour, meats, and gasoline were the most sought after and people had to make due as the number of stamps needed could use up alot of stamps.
