raccoon for a pet

I want to get a pet raccoon, what can I use for bate? and what time do they have babys? I live in florida if that helps!

Answer #1

Lol ok well you could go to an animal shelter they might have some there but you do need a special license but as for when they mate can’t help you there man sry

Answer #2

I was raised around raccoons, my mother had a license and worked close with the game wardens, They are ok pets if you are hands on everyday, but you need a license to have on. They would eat dog food, and have babies around March or April, and you are more likely to catch and Adult and Oh keep in Mind RABIES!

Answer #3

you can purchase one from a farm that is licensed to sell them, but its illegal to take one from the wild and if a wardon found out or the cops or a vet, they would take it from you. Also, without a lisence to own one, you will never be able to give it vet care, they need to see proof of a lisence to treat an exotic animal like that. My friend has had a couple skunks and raccoons and he bought them from a breeder who gives the lisence along with the pet.

Answer #4

It’s either illegal to keep one, or you will have to apply for a special license. Remember that they are WILD animals, and although some can appear friendly, they can still be unpredictable. They carry all sorts of diseases on them, and not surprisingly some will also have rabies. Keeping a wild animal as an exotic pet is not a good idea, especially one trapped from the wild, not one that has been specially bred down to decrease the chances of aggression.

Answer #5

gahh!!! just when do they mate? besids ill rises it with my farrit and it will be happy :))

Answer #6

“I’ll rises it with my farrit”

uhm ok yes, if you dont get bitten first, I’d love to see how long your “farrit” lasts with a wild raccoon…

where are your parents?

Answer #7

I dont think it wud be safe 2 try to trap a racoon then keep it as a pet. it cud have diseases and it cud bite or attack you. I’m not sure if you CAN have them as pets, I don’t know if there’s a law against it in yur state…or any state 4 that matter. I’ve never heard of someone having one as a pet.

Answer #8

Do you have any idea how aggressive raccoons are?

They are wild animals and they WILL attack you.

Answer #9

yea, umm, what about raibbies (sp?)?

Answer #10

I saw a Raccoon in a cage by a stream this evening. It was obviously wild. I only wish I could help it some way. People around here catch them to train their dogs with. I know I cant save the world but its so hard to see such a beautiful animal suffer in any way.I know a lot of people don’t care much for people like me but its just how I feel about the beauty of nature and its wild life.

Answer #11

nope, sorry but wild animals arnt pets it wont survive in your house or in a cage outside, ect it needs to be free, and to interact with other raccoons it will die if you keep it in captivity also keeping one is illegal, everywere unless you have a liscence or actually take care of lost, sick and injured animals then theres no legal way for you to keep one and keeping one as a pet would just be cruel you cant just pluck any animal from the wild and expect it to live it captivity because majority of them wont, theyll just slowly die and thats cruel

Answer #12

Well in Oklahoma its ok to have a raccoon as a pet as long as you get it the required vaccinations. They actually make great pets if you take the time to make em that way. but if you don’t have the time to put in don’t do it they can go from tame to wild in no time… Males typically make bad pets and get aggressive when they get breeding age. I had 2 females as a small kid and they always came back for several years to have and raise their young at my house it was a lot of fun having these animals around. For all you super tree huggers out there there is ways of living with wild animals and still having a close relationship with them.

Answer #13

“any animal can and has been tamed to live in captivity”

yeah, it worked so well for Siegfried & Roy right? even if you believe their story that the tiger was merely trying to help roy off stage the guy still wound up in critical condition and could very well have died from that “help”. some animals were just meant to be free.

laws of nature are very much like the laws of physics…you can argue all you want but you are still subject to them…if you don’t believe that then jump off a building while arguing about the law of gravity, and do us all a favor and do so BEFORE you procreate!
