Quote from the Bible

In RE, we have these “Youth Bible” things. Basically simplified, but has the same meaning. So me and my friend were bored and read a section. It said something like

“If a man releases semen into a woman, they are both unclean, they must bathe and visit a preist, then burn a pigeon.” something like that anyway, I mean, wtf?!!

and another one

If a woman has discharge, she is unclean too?? Um, thats natural. sigh

hmmm, well there are lots of passages that need explaining…

Deuteronomy 25:11-12 (New International Version) 11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

Deuteronomy 21:10-14 (King James Version) 10When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive, 11And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife; 12Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails; 13And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife. 14And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.

Deuteronomy 21:15-17 (King James Version) 15If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated: 16Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: 17But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

Deuteronomy 23:1 1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord. 2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord.

Exodus 21: vs 2-6 ‘If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself. And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free: Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him forever.’

Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ.’ (Ephesians 6:5)

‘Slaves, obey your human masters in everything; don’t work only while being watched, in order to please men, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord.’ (Colossians 3:22)

‘Slaves are to be submissive to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back .’ (Titus 2:9)

‘Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel. ‘ (1 Peter 2:18)

‘When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be punished; for the slave is his money.’ (Exodus 21:20-21)

‘Women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but should be submissive, as the law also says.’ (1 Corinthians 14:34)

‘But if … evidences of virginity are not found for the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones…’ (Deuteronomy 22:20,21)

amblessed… since you asked for specific quotes… I couldnt find the pigeon thing, but I did find the discharge bit (I’m assuming she’s talking about menstrual period?)

Leviticus 15:19-30 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even. And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean. And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even. And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean. And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean. Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation. And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean. And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.

Leviticus 20:18 And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

Ezekiel 18:5-6 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, and hath not … come near to a menstruous woman…

sillygirl006 - what exactly are you having a problem with understanding? I am pointing out that you cannot simply choose to believe what you want to believe and interpret something the way you want to interpret something and then call it the infallible word of God… if there is a higher power who inspired a book, I highly doubt there would be a need for interpretation or argument…

lordelrond seems to know what I’m talking about

where exactly does he specify what laws were “temporary”? the laws that were not to be followed and that were changed?

and “it was like a school teacher”, uhm what does that mean? as far as I know I wasnt taught rules in school that were supposed to be abandoned for some reason because I hit college… you must have had interesting schooling…

Answer #4

“However, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” and “thou shalt not kill,” etc still stands. “

hmm so you pick and choose which rules still stand?

Answer #5

captainassassin, you really need to stop correcting me about everything I say. you dont know me, I dont know you, and I REALLY would appreciate it if you woould stop harrassing me through funmail and my answers.

Answer #6

I don’t correct everything you say, I only correct you when you’re wrong.

Deal with it…

Oh, and the ‘funmail incident’ that happened a long time ago, was instigated BY YOU. Quit playing the victim, and take responsibility for your own mistakes…

Answer #7

I think your overacting a little, but it most likely means that if a man has sex with a woman before marriadge, it iz a sin. duh.

Answer #8

To a believer, the words of the bible are precious.

ahh so you go around raping virgines, sacificing lambs, doves, pigins, etc wow, hwo brutal

Answer #9

…she means, ‘’just overlook that part.’’

After all, we now live in a society where I CAN’T threaten you with death for questioning religion.

Answer #10

HAHAHA you people are FUNNY!!! FOR THOSE WHO ALWAYS SAY GOD SAID THIS AND THAT, EXACTLY HOW WOULD you KNOW?? FOR THOSE WHO don’t BELIEVE IN HIM, THAT IS SO SAD, BUT you MUST ADMIT IT IS SO MUCH BETTER TO BELIEVE IN SOMETHING THAT JUST MAY MAKE you A BETTER PERSON, THAN NOT BELIEVE IN SOMETHING AND POSSIBLY BE MISERABLE… ID MUCH RATHER HEAR WORDS OF WISDOM AND FAITH AS OPPOSED TO don’t BELIEVE IN THAT BULLSHIT!! OH WELL, EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY LIKE. OOHHH WAIT, ONE LAST THING… FOR ALL you HYPOCRITCAL NAZI F**KERS OUT THERE THAT USE RELIGION TO BRAINWASH your FOLLOWERS INTO DOING WHAT you BELIEVE IS WHAT GOD WANTS, SO STOP BRINGING RELIGION INTO POLITICS!!! LOOK AT PEOPLE AND TRY NOT TO JUDGE… BUT IF you MUST, JUDGE THEM ON THEIR CHARACTER. GOOSSHHH!!! SOME people!!

Answer #11

Old testament. that whole “burn a pigeon” thing went out the window when jesus died on the cross. he was the ultimate sacrifice, and if you accept him into your heart and pray for forgiveness, you will be forgiven. however, pre-marital sex is still seen as wrong in God’s eyes. Not that I’m not guilty of a number of sins myself {{including that one}}…but no, you dont have to burn a pigeon or anything. it just means that you are “unclean” and need to pray for forgiveness, and try to live right by God.

Answer #12

there’s a lot of quotes back in the day animals were sacrificed to the biblical God At one point even women & children. I wonder how many people will deny that, though it matters not for it is true.

“…for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God” -Deut 5:9

“..To Fear the Lord is wisdom”
–Job 28:28

*”For our God is a consuming fire!” – Hebrews 12:29

“thou who does not have a sword shall sell thy manyle & buy one”

Answer #13

oh I love it when people “read between the lines”, but then throw out Leviticus 18:22 (for those of you who have somehow escaped learning what it says: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”) as set it stone… so you’re going to interpret what you want how you want it, and some sins are forgiven some of the time, but if you’re gay you’re going to hell?

that makes complete sense…

Answer #14

Yes, there’s a lot of this nonsense in the bible. No, it doesn’t make much sense.

Answer #15

To a believer, the words of the bible are precious.

Answer #16

pre-marital sex is still seen as wrong in God’s eyes.

That’s not correct…

Answer #17

Please post those verse numbers, thanks.

Answer #18

Its just shows the sexism of the bible

Answer #19

“precious” but not to be explained?

Answer #20

sometimes I go though the bible and find weirdo passages like this. you have to “read between the lines” and once you do, it makes sense. I’m not that great at it though. the old testament especially is very difficult at times.

Answer #21

really? I love paul. he went around preaching the gospel for how long…was it 14 years? something like that.

Answer #22

ty…I don’t know what it is but I am not following what you’re saying in this question. you’re not making much sense to me…
