Question for a Catholic please
okay I recently went to a catholic church and im thinking about going back but the first time I went I looked completly stupid cause I didnt know what to do like the holy water the bowing and praying the body and blood(can minors take the blood of christ?) please tell me what I should do and how to do it when it comes to doing it in a catholic church cause I dont want to look crazy
thanks a million
You have Baptism, then First Holy Communion, then Confirmation to be a full Catholic.
You are only allowed to accept communion (the body & blood / bread & wine) once you have gone through your First Holy Communion. So when that part comes up during Mass, you can just sit it out in your pew, and/or kneel and pray if you want.
Regular church goers will be able to tell if someone knows the ‘protocol’ during Mass (I.e. knowing when to sit, stand up, kneel, etc) or not, but don’t worry about it, they won’t judge you for it, in fact they are probably very happy that their church has new people who are interested in their religion.
If you see one of the church ministers or priests walking around after Mass, you can ask them if they have a Youth Ministry or Youth group where you can join other young people like yourself. Once you get to know a few people here and there, you won’t feel as awkward.
ROFL I worked for a catholic school once and the first few months I was a disaster. But the adminsitration was very forgiving.
Just stand up, sit, or kneel when everyone else does. Don’t go up for communion though. Just sit in your seat. In the Catholic church, that’s reserved for those who are ‘official’ Catholics and who’ve gone through the proper religious training classes.
I’m sure the man upstairs doesn’t care how you walk in or what you do. He will welcome you. Sit in the pew and look around and if you see another person talk to them or sometimes you can find a priest wondering around . My suggestion is go to mass on a Sunday and just listen.
hey dont worry if you’re not exactly sure of what to do, no one will judge you for that. If you would like to go bacj just go and listen and if you have any questions or if you’re interested in the sacrements like Holy Commumion ask the priest.
well you should probably talk to the priest about what to do, but I personally don’t think anyone should communion unless they understand why they’re taking it, what it represents, and what it personally means to them. I was confirmed in a luthern church which isnt exactly catholic but it does have similarities. I know in catholic chuches you can be confirmed, you should also ask the preist if you can do this.
